Sunday School
Classes for children (4 years old through 6th grade) are offered Sundays at 9:30 a.m. from September 19 through May. Jim and Mary Olson are the teachers.
In addition to the classroom experiences, the Sunday School service projects this past year has included the "Blender Bash" that donated blenders to St. Andrews Clinic and the "Souper Bowl of Caring" that gave food to our community. The children work hard on these and are so proud when they are successful.
Our children at DHLC have and continue to "Make a Difference."
Confirmation Classes - begin October 15, 2011
...for young people in seventh grade or above will meet with Pastor Martin Overson in his office twice a month on Saturday afternoons from 2:30-4:30 pm (October through April).The first year's study uses Luther's Small Catechism, and the second year focuses on the Bible.
In the Lutheran Church, Confirmation is the public affirmation of one's baptismal vows, following comprehensive instruction in the Christian faith. At the time of baptism, parents and sponsors made promises for the child. With the rite of Confirmation, young people confirm their vows themselves as they begin the next chapter in their individual faith walk with God.
When young people are confirmed, students affirm their faith in their own words to become full members of the church. Confirmation classes are available each year; contact Pastor Overson to enroll by calling the church office 648-1633 or emailing at mnoverson@yahoo.com.
First Communion Class (children fourth grade and up)
If your child is asking questions about Holy Communion and wants to receive it prior to Confirmation, Pastor Overson is offering a class for parents and their children. This class will explain the meaning of the Lord's Supper and why it is an important part of our life as Jesus' followers. Since children vary in their readiness for communion before they reach Confirmation age, this class will help children understand the meaning of Communion as and God's forgiveness. If your child attends worship or Sunday School regularly and would like to receive Communion before Confirmation, please contact the church office at 648-1633 to register for this class.
