Category: Worship Services

Notes:

One of the strong messages of Jesus in his ministry on earth was to reveal the true nature of God the creator. This is illustrated in the way Jesus responds to the grief stricken sisters, Mary and Martha and their friends. Jesus is deeply moved and has compassion for them. Jesus even wept with them. Does God care about our losses of loved ones. Yes, God cares. Jesus declares to Martha, "I am the resurrection and the life." Many of us may be tempted to take the word "life" and make it part of the resurrection. Another way of thinking of this is to understand that the movement started by Jesus and his disciples was to bring about a transformation of humanity. This is to move people from darkness into light. Looking at the world as it is we might become discouraged with the progress of this mission. However, consider the full arc of time involving millions of years. So the 2000 or so years since Jesus was on earth is but a dash of time. We can take hope that the Christian mission is making a difference. We are all called to discipleship in our own sphere of influence. Also, we can be happy to be part of a congregation at Desert Hills that does transformational work. Good examples of this are found in the generous gift response of our congregation for a young widow with an infant child. Another example is the generous response to our Christmas in July program. These are transformational efforts that truly make a difference in this world. Take hope.
