The identity of Jesus is being questioned throughout this section of John. Some claim he is the Son of God or a prophet, while others claim him to be a fraud, or even worst, a son of the devil. While the debate rages on, Jesus tells them to focus on not what he said but what he did to reveal the presence of God. In John chapter 10, verses 37 – 38, Jesus states

37 If I am not doing the works of my Father, then do not believe me. 38 But if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, so that you may know and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father.”

As important as preaching and worship are, what is even more essential is how we live our daily lives. If individuals do not believe the gospel based on what is said and done in worship each week, maybe they will believe – or not believe – based on how we live each day.
