Advent Beyond Expectations "How Can This Be?" Sat. Dec. 17, 2022

On this weekend before Christmas, we get to hear the thoughts of Joseph. His future bride is with child and the baby is not his. How many soap operas or movies have you seen that start with a similar plot? Perhaps, you have experienced and/or heard of similar situations. Each with their own set of difficult circumstances. While the story surrounding Jesus’ birth in the Gospel of Luke centers upon Mary, in the Gospel of Matthew, the story focuses on the faith of Joseph. Even as Joseph finds out the heartbreaking news, he still wants to save Mary from any embarrassment or ridicule or worse. As you read these verses, you cannot help but see the true character of the man who would be the one to raise God’s Son. The angel appears to tell Joseph what is going on but remember that still does not mean that the road will be easy. People will talk and questions will be asked from those that do not understand.
