Notes:

Matthew 28:16-20

This section of Matthew is often referred to as the great commission. In Jesus’s final words to his disciples before he returns to heaven, he commissions them to go, make, teach, and baptize all nations. In Matthew’s gospel, the women who encountered Jesus after his resurrection, were told to have his disciples meet him in Galilee. Unlike the other gospels, this meeting in Galilee is the first and only time the disciples see the resurrected Jesus. Instead of allowing the disciples time to rejoice or contemplate what the resurrection means, Jesus sends them out on their mission. There is no time to rest; now is the time to go. To go to those in your community and to those across the world. It is this understanding of our call to action that drives a key component of our mission statement here at Desert Hills. We are not called simply to come, sit, and listen to the wonderful news of the gospel; we are called to go and make disciples. Teaching them the ways of Jesus and baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Dig deeper:

Reflect on how the call to make disciples in our mission statement might be lived out in your own life and in the life of the community?
