Notes:

God promises David, that one of his descendants will sit on Israel’s throne forever with these words: Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me; your throne will be established forever. 2 Samuel 7:16.  This Promise is called the Davidic Covenant. We know that Jesus is a direct descendant of King David and the fulfillment of God’s promise to David in the gospel of Luke: The angel said to her "Do not be afraid, Mary for you have found favor with God! You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David. And he will reign over Israel forever; his Kingdom will never end!" Luke 1:30-33

David was a human being just like us. He was not perfect; he was flawed; he was broken; and at times he committed sin, just like us. Yet God loved David just like God loves and accepts us when we trust God’s promises. God uses ordinary people like David and us to do extraordinary things.

Assignment:

As we come to the end of our journey through the Old Testament series, we transition to our four-part series on Stewardship entitled “The Bread of Life.” I can think of no better person than Pastor Ron, a great pastor, and on top of that, a baker extraordinaire, to lead us through that series.

Your assignment for the coming week is to take to heart God’s Promise on Graceful Giving and think about this passage:

“Don’t give reluctantly or under pressure. For God loves a cheerful giver. And God will generously provide all your needs. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty leftover to share with others.”  2 Corinthians 9:6-8
