Meals as a Sign "Of Salvation"- Sun, Aug 7, 2022

Preacher: Pastor Mike Sager

Series: Meals as a Sign

Category: Worship Services

Notes:

In Luke 22, Jesus offers himself to the disciples and to us. This bread is my body; this cup is my blood, do all this in remembrance of me. This meal not only points back to the Passover meal, but forward to the feast that is to come. It also points us to the cross. In this meal, we eat with God’s people, and we eat with Christ, who is present through the Holy Spirit. The Lord’s Supper is to be desired: a meal filled with anticipation, longing, excitement, and joy. The Lord’s Supper is a joyous celebration with friends, a feast.

Dig Deeper:

The Lord’s Supper is an act of:

Remembering the cross and the forgiveness of our sins.

Community as there is only one bread, one body. Together as we eat, we are united together as one.

Dependence as we remember all that we have, comes from God. Whether it is the bread we eat or the forgiveness we are offered through Jesus' death on the cross. All of life is dependent upon God.

Participation as we eat the bread and drink the wine. We are not called to simply watch and hear the words being said, but to actively participate in the meal.

Formation as we participate in the meal, it becomes habit-forming; we learn again and again the habits of a Christ-centered life.

What is the most meaningful aspect of the Lord’s Supper for you?
