Sermon Notes:

This week’s theme is the Refreshment on the Road from the book of Isaiah 43:16-21. The prophet Isaiah is writing to the people of Israel during their time of exile. For the first part of Isaiah the prophet reminds the people of their past transgressions and how their exile is a result of their failure to trust God. Isaiah then turns his attention away from the judgment of God to the renewing work of God. Encouraging the people to not only remember God’s faithfulness in the past but to be confident of God’s continual faithfulness in the past and future. The amazing works of God in the past is not worth comparing to the new work God is doing in the lives of God’s people today. That our spirits need to be refreshed along the journey of life so that we might be renewed in our faith and strengthen for our journey.

Isaiah 43:18-19

18 “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. 19 See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.

Invitation to explore deeper:

  1. How are you experiencing God doing a new thing in your life right now?
  2. What are some ways you refresh your spirit, especially in times of struggle?
  3. How can reflecting on the past deeds of God help you trust God’s working in your life today?
