Preacher: Pastor Mike Sager

Series: The Value and Purpose of Prayer

Category: Worship Services

Notes:

In the book of Hebrews, the writer uses the Jewish image of the High Priest who enters the Most Holy Place and there on the mercy seat of God offers a sacrifice for the forgiveness of the community. This offering was done only once a year and could only be done by the High Priest. The writer proclaims that now we do not have to have a High Priest to offer a sacrifice for our sins or to gain access to God. Through Jesus, we now have a new High Priest, who allows us access to God’s mercy.

Prayer allows us to draw near to God and to experience the mercy of God that flows from his throne. As we draw closer to God, we find our place of rest and gratitude. The blessings of God shower down upon us, filling us with the confidence of God’s presence and love. So, draw closer to God.

Dig Deeper:

Now that you have access to the mercy of God through Christ, how can prayer bring you a sense of rest and peace?
