During the past several weeks, we have been focusing on prayer. How prayer reveals God’s heart, transforms us, and draws us closer to God. The final question is what is the result of prayer? According to our scripture readings for this weekend, the purpose of prayer and faith is so we might bring glory to God through our works of love to our neighbor in need. Because God is love, we who are being drawn into the heart of God are called to reveal that love through our actions. The writer of 1 John is blunt in the statement “For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.” Serious words that remind us of the importance of love in our lives and in God’s kingdom. As people of faith, whom through prayer have experienced the love of God, we are called to share that love with others. That is our purpose, to bring glory to God through our love for one another.
