Flourishing at any stage of life begins with living a right relationship with God, who is the author of life. The word “righteousness” is often thought of to mean doing the right or correct thing. But according to scripture, it means living in a right relationship with God. That is why scripture can claim Abraham as righteous, even though he did not always do the right thing. Based on God’s promises, Abraham trusted his relationship with God, who proclaimed him righteous. This righteousness of God, which comes to us as a free gift of grace, is what allows us to flourish amid life’s struggles at any stage of life.
