In the book of Galatians, Paul describes the tug of war we all feel at times between the powers of this world and the desires of the Holy Spirit. Jesus reminds us that we cannot serve two masters, because we will be devoted to one and hate the other. You can’t follow both the world and Holy Spirit; you must choose which to follow. Following the Spirit will lead you to the kingdom of God, where life and love are revealed and experienced. Following the world will drive you further away from the true source of life and hope. For in being led by the Spirit, the fruit of the Spirit is offered and grown in the service of the world.
