A New Covenant "Facing the Beyond the Suffering" - Sun. March 17, 2024

Preacher: Pastor Mike Sager

Series: The Covenants of God

Category: Worship Services

Notes:

Some Greeks came up to the disciple Philip and said, “We want to see Jesus.” That’s all we get. We do not know whether they heard about Jesus’ teachings and were coming to join him as one of his followers or they were just from “out of town” and heard his reputation for healing and wanted to make sure they didn’t miss the spectacle before going home. Jesus uses their arrival in an unexpected way. Jesus sees it as the culmination of his earthly ministry. His gospel had reached even the foreigner, and Jesus uses this time to tell again how he must die so that others may live. In his gospel, John makes sure that we know that God is pleased with Jesus and that his death is not a punishment but necessary so that we might live. As Jesus says, “When I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw all people to myself.” As we prepare for Holy Week, it is fitting that we are reminded again that Jesus died for you and for me. Like the strangers, we get to see Jesus whenever we gather in his name under his empty cross.

Dig Deeper:

What does it mean to you to be drawn to the foot of Jesus’ cross?
