Abrahamic Covenant "Before the Journey" - Sun. February 25, 2024

It had to start somewhere. We like to know when something began. How did it come into being? The old chicken and egg discussion, which came first? We see the mighty Mississippi River, journeying from Minnesota all the way to the Gulf of Mexico. This river, upstream and downstream, provides a trade route for millions of pounds of goods, produce, and daily needs. Yet at its beginning, one could wade in 18 feet, which in a wet season won’t go above your knees. Along the way, it is joined by the Missouri and Ohio Rivers and countless others as it makes its way to the sea. What started with God’s promise to Abram has multiplied manyfold as through him we have been joined with the original covenant. As each of us join our lives and our songs, we become part of the ever-flowing love of God as it flows throughout the world. This fulfills the promise made so long ago, “I have made you the father of many nations.” In our relationship with God, we get to find the comfort in knowing that we are included in the promises that God gave to Abram so long ago.
