Advent is the beginning of a new church year. It is a time to “kick-off” literally and figuratively. A time to “wake-up” from spiritual drowsiness (so to “kick-off” that state of being) and to “clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.” (Col 3:12). It is also a time of new beginnings.  The season of Advent is a time of preparation, getting ready for the celebration of Christ who was promised long ago through the prophets. Advent calls us and guides us to put our hope/faith (noun) into action (a verb).

Reflect on the words of this beloved hymn:

“My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ Name.
On Christ the solid Rock I stand,
All other ground is sinking sand;
All other ground is sinking sand.”
