Notes:

When we think of Pentecost, we often think about tongues of fire and speaking in foreign languages. This is how the gift and working of the Holy Spirit is described in the Gospel of Luke and the Book of Acts. In the Gospel of John, the image of the Holy Spirit is described differently; it is described as rivers of living water that will quench your thirst. This river both flows from the hearts of believers into the world and from the heart of Jesus to us. The necessity of water cannot be overstated, not only for physical life but also for spiritual life. A spirit that is constantly thirsty will look for water in unhealthy places that will not quench its thirst. The gift of the Holy Spirit was given so that we might find in Christ that which we truly seek in life. We will hunger and thirst no more.
