"The Gift of Peace" - Sun. December 10, 2023

On the second Sunday of Advent, we focus our attention on peace. In Paul’s letters to the Romans, Paul reminds us that the peace of God comes to us through the hope we have in God. The hope and faith that was discussed last week fills us with peace as we trust in God. So, what is this peace that is offered? When we think of peace, we often think of a lack of conflict… wouldn’t that be nice? As nice as this type of peace would be, God’s peace goes even deeper. The peace that God offers us as a gift of the Holy Spirit not only seeks the elimination of conflict it also seeks to restore what was broken. Restoration is the ultimate goal of peace. Not only has Jesus’ death and resurrection resulted in the lack of conflict with God it has also brought restoration to our relationship with God.
